GREENLINE 42, the silent cruise

Greenline Yacht, the Slovenian shipyard recognized as the absolute pioneer of hybrid and eco-friendly leisure boating, has introduced the new Greenline 42 into its range, this model fits between the classic Greenline 40 and the larger 45.

The exclusive H-Drive 6G system patented by Greenline interposes very powerful electric motors between the diesel engine and the propeller. This solution allows for silent maneuvers and speeds of up to 6.5 knots using electric energy. The batteries are recharged through the recovery of energy lost from the thermal engines during navigation, ensuring that the batteries are always charged, capable of providing up to 48 hours of operation for onboard services without the use of generators or diesel engines.

The model being tested is the version with 2 diesel engines Yanmar of 250 HP (latest generation common rail of 2.8 liters) that allow this yacht measuring 13.50m in length and 4.30m in width to reach a maximum speed of 25 knots, and maintain a cruising speed of 12 to 15 knots with absolutely reduced consumption thanks to the performance hull that characterizes all Greenline models.

Onboard, the construction quality of Greenline Yacht is evident, with a spacious and ergonomic dinette featuring a cozy sofa served by a table that can be lowered to create an additional bed, while on the opposite side, a modular cabinet integrates a retractable television.

The helm console is slightly raised, allowing for excellent visibility towards the bow, and thanks to large windows on the sides, navigation is greatly facilitated.

Descending three steps leads to the sleeping area, structured with two cabins: the owner’s cabin at the bow, equipped with a versatile double bed that can be converted into two V-shaped beds, and a second cabin on the left with separate single beds. A bathroom fully equipped with every comfort serves the area, while the shipyard offers various living configurations upon request.

Greenline 42, the sea trial

We leave the mooring without issues thanks to the maneuvering propellers, cross the channel to exit into open sea, respecting the speed limits, and appreciate the extreme quietness of the 2 Yanmar engines. Once outside the channel, we were able to test the GREENLINE 42 at various speeds, increasing the power of the engines and reaching a cruising speed of 15 knots, with instruments reading consumption of 26 l/h per engine, absolutely in line with 13-meter vessels equipped with these same engines. At this speed, the hull begins to plane, allowing for smooth and precise maneuverability, the use of flaps allows us to maintain a planing attitude even at medium speeds, thanks to the performance hull that Greenline adopts on all models. Having to give way to various water taxis navigating in the Venice lagoon, the extreme maneuverability was very useful and allowed us to navigate in sometimes very tight spaces.

Greenline 42

Despite a wave of about 30 centimeters and the turns we made to understand how the hull handled the sea, the navigation was extremely pleasant: the hull design ensured a smooth passage over the waves, without compromising speed and stability. The Greenline 42 combines extraordinarily comfortable living space with intuitive and light handling, all while ensuring exceptionally low consumption.
