Zuanelli 36 – Construction of the new project has begun.

Zuanelli has officially started the construction of the new Z36, designed by Felci Yacht Design.

In the Zuanelli shipyard, the molds for the new jewel designed by Felci Yacht Design are being created. As planned, they will be completed by the end of December, and with the new year, the construction of the first specimen of this innovative boat will begin.

A product thought, designed, and built with passion, imagined and experienced in every detail. Capable of gathering all the experience and concreteness of two realities, the Zuanelli Shipyard and Felci Yacht Design, which have distinguished themselves so far for the quality and seriousness of their work.

The Zuanelli 36 is born with different purposes.

The first is to give the opportunity to young sailors to approach the world of sailing and cruising starting on the right foot. This desire, born from the passion of Zuanelli and Felci, is especially reflected in the SPORT configuration of the Z36.

In this setup, all choices are dedicated to maximum functionality and efficiency, stemming from the desire to keep costs as low as possible for what we could define as an “entry level.” A configuration that does not require particular options to be able to cast off and start enjoying the adventure of offshore sailing.

The second purpose is to allow a mature sailor, who wants to experience the sea in all its aspects, who loves to sail safely and with excellent performance, to find themselves on a vessel designed and planned in every detail to make their life on board and navigation better.

From this purpose arises the GRAN TURISMO configuration, in which the extreme functionality of all choices is, where still possible, enhanced. For example, the addition of primary winches, the possibility of motorizing them, and the introduction of a steering system with the now classic double wheel.

This setup of the new Zuanelli also takes into account some formal concessions and choices that have important aesthetic values. For example, the teak deck (real or synthetic), the flush hatches of the highest quality, and some non-essential but useful system elements to increase onboard and navigation comfort.

The third purpose arises from the desire to respond to the growing demand for vessels dedicated to exploration, designed for long-range offshore sailing, capable of ensuring long stays on board. Thus, the zuanelli EXPLORER configuration is born, which from the very beginning of the project provides a coherent, functional, and aesthetically very interesting response to the multitude of needs that an “Explorer” sailor will face. For example, adequate protection of the cockpit from both the elements and the sun, the possibility of installing large solar panels, the ease of hoisting the tender without having to disassemble the engine, and many others.

Zuanelli 36 SPORT, the starting point for those approaching the Z36, offers everything necessary for sailing and cruising, essential, efficient, and modular, it can also be customized at a later time.

Zuanelli 36 GRAN TURISMO, designed for Mediterranean cruising use, equipped with a double steering wheel, teak deck, and a large swim platform at the stern.

Zuanelli 36 EXPLORER, more than any other, summarizes the potential of this new project. Designed for long voyages, it is equipped with all the elements that facilitate life on board. Starting from a robust roll bar for the mainsail sheet, an efficient cockpit cover, and increased external storage.

The design philosophy that accompanies all three models is based on “Functionality” as an absolute priority.

The hull, characterized by rather ample volumes, thanks to an important but not extreme maximum beam, with very taut lines and great stability of shape, is born to offer not only absolute performance but also high sailing comfort. The appendages and sail plan are also configured to always offer maximum control and ease of handling. The fin, with a maximum draft of 2 meters, made of steel with a lead bulb and assembled with a tested system of a plate and oversized shrouds, offers great lateral stability and optimal lift. The construction of the Z36, made from a female mold in epoxy resin infusion and fiberglass with localized carbon fiber reinforcements, is among the most robust, durable, and lightweight that can be created with current technologies. The base panel of the hull and deck, made of sandwich, offers rigidity and insulation, as well as great stiffness.

Great attention is also given to the choice of components for the systems. Here too, the foundation is simplification: “fewer things, fewer potential failures, and less maintenance.” The spirit of these wise words is embraced and always kept in mind during the design and realization of the systems themselves.

In this, the great experience of the shipyard has been of fundamental importance. Architecturally, the interiors are divided simply and designed with efficiency and elegance. The furniture, made with lightweight materials, is easily removable for maintenance or replacement. In the SPORT version, there are two cabins, both spacious with double beds, with a single large bathroom and spacious shower. The kitchen, of dimensions usually found only on much larger vessels, with double refrigerator and many storage options, is located on the left in a traditional position.

The chart table faces aft, and a technical area with an electrical panel and navigation instruments is located in the center of the boat, the control point for all necessary functions for navigation and for managing the systems. A large storage area is also provided at the stern, with easy access from both the cockpit and the bathroom, serving to store everything necessary for great autonomy. The deck equipment, the result of an optimization process, includes in the SPORT version, 4 winches, electrifiable, two dedicated to halyards and two to sheets, positioned within reach of the helmsman. The mainsail track is also provided at the bottom of the cockpit, and as an option, it is possible to add two primary winches to separate the functions of managing the mainsail and the headsails.

Not common on a 36-footer is also the separate, watertight sail locker, with access from the deck via a dedicated hatch. This allows for orderly storage of the jib and code zero when not on the shore and creates an additional watertight area that separates the center of the boat from the extreme bow.

The transom is manually operable, and the stern garage is accessible from the watertight hatch located at the bottom of the cockpit, allowing it to be used as additional storage and ensuring a watertight area that separates the steering gear from the rest of the vessel.

Among the options, it is also possible to place a robust steel roll-bar with the mainsail track incorporated, to keep the cockpit free from the sheet, and then the stern arch, very useful for hoisting the tender during short-range movements, positioning solar panels, providing space for various antennas, and supporting an innovative rollable cockpit cover.

To protect the cockpit, at the bow, an innovative openable carbon and plexiglass dome is being studied as an alternative to the traditional tube-canvas dodger. It is designed as a true windshield, easily adjustable to three levels to provide robust protection during the most challenging navigations, but also the possibility of direct air during the hottest periods or light winds.
