Saxdor Yachts says goodbye to complicated maneuvers. Simrad AutoCaptain arrives
Docking in a crowded marina, managing variable wind or current conditions, or approaching a particularly tight berth are among the operations that can challenge even the most experienced captains. It is precisely to simplify these operations that the Simrad® AutoCaptain™ Autonomous Boating System was created, the innovative automatic docking and maneuvering system that Saxdor Yachts has decided to integrate into its range of boats. The debut takes place at the International Boat Show in Genoa, where the Finnish manufacturer presented the new technology together with Navico Group.
Simrad AutoCaptain: how it works
The system offers a real-time 360-degree view of the surrounding environment, helping to drastically reduce stress at the helm and provide greater safety, control, and predictability during maneuvers.
Integrated directly into the boat’s design, AutoCaptain is exclusively compatible with advanced propulsion systems from Mercury Marine and features a dedicated App on Simrad® displays for a smooth and intuitive user experience.
“Simrad AutoCaptain perfectly aligns with our approach to technology on Saxdor boats: it’s not just about automating a task, but making the entire experience more intuitive and providing the captain with greater safety,” explains Ludvig Liljequist, Chief Technology Officer of Saxdor Yachts.
The shipyard also highlights a milestone: it is the first boat manufacturer outside the United States to integrate AutoCaptain into its range.
A digital ecosystem designed around the boat
For Saxdor, AutoCaptain represents another piece of a larger project aimed at building a true digital ecosystem around the boat, made up of cutting-edge solutions that demonstrate the shipyard’s ongoing commitment to technological innovation.
Among these tools is Boat IQ, an artificial intelligence-based assistant integrated directly into the boat. Boat IQ works on the onboard multifunction displays and is connected in real-time to Saxdor AI, the knowledge platform developed in collaboration with Cadentia. At the helm, the owner can therefore make specific requests related to their boat without having to switch to a separate application.
Since its launch at the beginning of 2026, Saxdor AI has handled over 10,000 customer requests, engaged hundreds of boat owners, and has been adopted by over 40 dealers in 30 countries.
“Bringing this system directly to the helm alongside Saxdor and Navico represents an important step for the industry”, comments Tatu Heikkilä, CEO of Cadentia.
With MySaxdor App, Saxdor AI, Digital Showroom, Boat IQ, and now AutoCaptain, the Finnish manufacturer is thus building an increasingly connected range.
