Aquila 46 Coupe Power Catamaran, the sea trial
Aquila 46 Coupe represents a true revolution in the power-cat market, it is a new generation motor catamaran that combines the sleek and sporty profile of a marine coupe with the space and stability typical of multihulls, eliminating the upper flybridge to concentrate all onboard life on a unique, fluid, and step-free main deck.

Its distinctive feature is the presence of a FOIL between the two side hulls: the Hydro Glide carbon system of the Aquila 46 coupe acts as a central hydrodynamic blade: it activates significantly at medium speeds (above 15 knots) lifting the hull to reduce friction with the water. This allows for cushioning the impact with waves, offering an extremely smooth navigation, reducing fuel consumption by up to 25-30%, and reaching maximum speeds exceeding 35-40 knots, reducing the weight on the hulls by 40%, giving the sensation of sailing on a much larger, solid, and stable yacht, almost eliminating vibrations.

Aquila 46 coupe: the test
Leaving the Vieux Port during the Cannes Yachting Festival, the exceptional maneuverability is noticeable right from the unmooring phases. The joystick makes every maneuver simple and safe, controlling either two Volvo IPS inboard engines of 480 HP or a pair of powerful Mercury V12 outboards of 600 HP. Once out of the harbor, we gradually increase speed and up to about 15-18 knots, the Aquila 46 Coupe behaves like a semi-displacement vessel; but as soon as we exceed this speed, the Hydro Glide system starts to work, the boat lifts, and we begin to plane.
Continuing to “push” and reaching a cruising speed of 25-28 knots (with a maximum speed of 35-40 knots depending on the engine configuration), the catamaran remains absolutely stable, smooth but extremely responsive in handling, the trim remains perfect, and the roll is minimal even in the tightest turns. It should be noted that the foil, being a fixed structure integrated directly into the hull, does not require dedicated engines or hydraulic systems: a solution that completely eliminates additional maintenance.

Aquila 46 Coupe, the internal layout
The Aquila 46 Coupe is a motor catamaran that takes advantage of the wide beam of 5.46 meters to offer interiors on a single level and an integrated architecture between the saloon, helm, and sleeping area. The continuity between the aft cockpit, the kitchen, and the internal saloon creates an open living area, ideal for those seeking an “open air” experience without sacrificing the protection of a hardtop.

The kitchen is positioned directly at the entrance to conveniently serve both the internal saloon and the aft cockpit. It includes solid surface countertops with a sink, induction cooktop, oven/microwave, and under-counter refrigerators; while to the right is a spacious seating area with an adjustable dining table. The helm station on the starboard side offers three large seats and enjoys large windows that provide 360° visibility.

At the bow, a very comfortable lounge area, which is accessed directly from the saloon, without having to pass through the side walkways, thanks to the central door cut into the windshield. Below deck, the vessel focuses on the real comfort of 4 guests, the owner’s cabin, positioned full beam, features a queen-size island bed, large hull windows, wardrobes, a desk, and an en-suite bathroom with a separate shower. The guest cabin is located in the opposite hull and offers a double (or twin) bed and another bathroom with a shower.

Turning point among motor catamarans
The Aquila 46 Coupe marks a turning point in the landscape of motor catamarans, breaking the paradigm that relegates multihulls to slow cruises or massive forms dominated by flybridges. It is aimed at the owner who desires quick movements, smooth navigation, and stress-free mooring management thanks to the joystick and the intelligent beam, which has allowed for finding the ideal balance between livability and navigation dynamics.
