Numarine 27 XP: silence is no longer just comfort.

Silence on board is often described as a form of comfort. On the Numarine 27 XP, it instead becomes the result of a precise energy strategy: to produce and store energy while the boat is sailing, to reduce the need to generate it when at anchor, dining, swimming, or even more so when sleeping.

This is the key to understanding the new Mk2 Super Silent Pack, developed together with Sleipner. In Cannes, Patrik von Sydow, CEO of Numarine, described its effects starting from real life: a night with air conditioning and stabilization active, without having to activate the generator, or discussing a transfer that started at three in the morning while the owner continues to sleep.

Silence thus enters energy management, but also the very way of using an explorer profile like that of the Numarine 27 XP.

Numarine 27 XP: producing energy while sailing

The architecture of the Mk2 Super Silent Pack operates at 48 volts DC and integrates an LFP battery bank of 92.8 kWh, 5.6 kW of solar panels, shore power, and intelligent load management through Sleipner’s Hybrid Power Center.

During navigation, generators powered by the main engines’ power take-off (PTO) directly recharge the batteries: the declared charging power is 10 kW at idle and goes up to 50 kW while cruising.

This transition is what makes the system interesting. Part of the electricity production is thus concentrated during sailing phases, when the main engines are already running, reducing the need to use generators during stops.

Propulsion remains entrusted to the two MAN 560: according to data presented by Numarine, the 27 XP reaches a maximum speed of 13.5 knots, cruises at 10 knots, and claims a range of 2,200 nautical miles at 8 knots.

The Super Silent Pack instead intervenes on services and load management, reducing the operating hours of the gensets and, according to Numarine, also the associated maintenance needs and local emissions during battery operation phases.

“At night, silent and stable”

During the conference, von Sydow particularly emphasized the experience that comes from it: “You are there, calm, in silence and stable, without power from the generators,” he explained. The 27 XP can spend the night with air conditioning, refrigerators, and stabilization active without using the generator; during the day, the system can also support loads like cooking, washing machines, and dryers. The technical release talks about Sleep Mode, designed to reduce nighttime consumption and allow a night at anchor without gensets, keeping even energy-intensive systems operational. But in Cannes, the discussion went beyond the stop.

“The fact that you are not running does not mean you are wasting time,” summarizes von Sydow. Malaz adds that at night conditions are often calmer and the transfer can be simpler.

Addressing Ömer Malaz, von Sydow recalled the founder’s habit of starting some transfers around three in the morning, while on board people continue to sleep. Malaz jokes that he can still hear the noise of the anchor being raised. Then, however, he goes back to sleep and wakes up at the next destination. This is where silence, displacement speed, and energy management meet: if the transfer occurs while guests are sleeping, sailing at 8 or 10 knots does not necessarily mean taking time away from the day.

Numarine 27 XP: almost 4,000 miles and a boat lived as a home

The first Numarine 27 XP was launched in April in the Haliç area of Istanbul. Even before the first unit entered the water, von Sydow explained, five units had already been sold. The one present in Cannes had, according to the CEO, almost 4,000 nautical miles under its belt, sailing between Turkish and Greek waters, with the owners on board practically since the launch. This data helps to understand why Numarine insists so much on noise, vibrations, and autonomy. In response to a question about the explorer audience, von Sydow described boats on which the stay tends to extend and where the boundary between vacation and work becomes more fluid.

“It’s your second home, or your flexible home,” he explained. And speaking specifically about the couple who own the 27 XP present in Cannes, he was even more direct: “This is truly their summer home.”

In the same response, he gathered what he considers the essential requirements: reliability, autonomy, comfort, low levels of noise and vibrations, and storage capacity, so that the boat can be truly lived as a home. It is in this perspective that the Super Silent Pack takes on a different weight. Not because it transforms the 27 XP into a completely silent boat, but because it reduces the need to operate the generators precisely when the boat is being inhabited.

Autonomy is not just about going far

In recent years, Numarine has built its identity around the explorer world, with Can Yalman ensuring continuity in the brand’s language even after the transition, in 2017, from fast cruising motor yachts to this type of yacht. During the conference, the shipyard also recalled a 37 XP that traveled from Istanbul across the Mediterranean and Atlantic, through the Panama Canal and the Pacific to New Zealand. But von Sydow emphasized that exploring does not necessarily mean crossing oceans: it can also mean moving in one’s own waters with greater freedom and less dependence on infrastructure.

Another owner of a 37-meter yacht, who left Istanbul and arrived in the Mediterranean after sailing between Greece and Turkey, realized he had not yet refueled. He realized it almost in hindsight, von Sydow recounted, and that realization had become a concrete measure of the available autonomy. The same principle allows for reading the Mk2 Super Silent Pack without stopping at the 92.8 kWh of batteries or the 50 kW of charging from the PTO.
